On average it rains 55 days a year in Barcelona. During one of our many trips here it rained from start to finish over the course of 5 days! If you are unfortunate enough to have wet weather on your trip – don’t worry – here are some ideas for what to do when it rains in Barcelona!
Museums
There are lots of museums all over Barcelona that cater to anyone's interest, some of which include Museu Picasso, Fundació Joan Miró, Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and MACBA, there is even a chocolate museum! Using the metro to dodge the rain you can pass a pleasant day without getting too wet!

A Day by the Port
Barcelona is by the sea, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it if it’s raining! You could start with the Museu d'Història de Catalunya at Port Vell, then moving along the port, visit the Aquarium and take in some shopping with lunch at Maremagnum shopping centre. Afterwards take yourself along the Rambla del Mar and end your day suitably dry in the Maritime Museum learning about the area you have just spent the day in. The walking distance between these places isn't much so you should be able to get from one to the other in between showers without getting too wet!

The Old Town – Ciutat Vella
Due to its design, the Old Town is fairly sheltered (unless it’s really pouring!) This makes it a great place to spend the day if it’s a little bit drizzly out! Lose yourself in the maze of streets, popping in and out of churches, cafes, shops and museums. Enjoy a long lunch in one of the many beautiful Old Town restaurants and end your day with some cocktails or wine in any number of bars in "El Born"!

Architecture
One thing Barcelona isn’t short on is beautiful architecture. Passeig de Gràcia is a good area to spend the day with a lot of great places to see in close proximity to each other (with lots of bars and restaurants in between). Here you can find architectural gems such as La Pedrera, Casa Batlló and Casa Amatller. My favourite of these and definitely worth the visit is Casa Batlló - book tickets online in advance.

Shopping
Shopping is always a good idea, especially if it’s raining! Start on Passeig de Gràcia, working your way down the high end stores to Placa Catalunya, stop for a nice long lunch and maybe a glass of wine or two. You can then carry on down Portal d ‘la Angel where you will find more shops including Zara, H&M and Massimo Dutti and not forgetting El Corte Ingles. You will also find lots of boutique shops all over the Old Town where you will find unique items for that special occasion. Barcelona also has lots of vintage clothing stores where you can spend time looking for a hidden gem!
Spas
If none of that takes your fancy and you just want to stay out of the rain and relax ,you could always retreat for the day to a luxurious spa and enjoy some pampering or a soothing massage. A recommended spa is Aire de Barcelona. Just on the edge of the Born district, this spa is beautiful inside and offers a red wine bath treatment! My kind of place!!
