Just half an hour South West from Barcelona on the Costa Dorada lies the sparkling Mediterranean town of Sitges. It’s easy to get there by public transport with regular trains leaving from the main Barcelona stations. Popular with tourists and locals alike Sitges has an exclusive feel and is a great option for a change of scene if you want to enjoy a day on the beach away from the crowds of Barcelona. Sitges has four kilometres of pristine golden sand so there’s plenty of space to perch your parasol!

With a year round mild climate it’s really easy to enjoy a host of outdoor activities no matter the time of year, there’s everything from sailing and other water sports to football tournaments.

Sitges is also well known for its vibrant festival scene such as the Sitges International Film Festival, the Gay Pride Festival and of course the famous Sitges Carnival. Not to mention the many other local festivals. This year round calendar ensures you will find something happening whenever you choose to visit.

Step down from the train and straight into the lovely white washed streets which are easily walk-able. You can meander at your own pace discovering beautiful balconies adorned with flowers, scenic viewpoints, cafes and bodegas where you can rest and rejuvenate. There are also various museums, antique shops and a wide choice of exclusive fashion boutiques to keep the avid shopper amused for hours.

A stroll along the beach promenade is very relaxing and there is no end of places to choose from if you fancy some traditional tapas or some freshly caught fish along with a house vermouth or Spanish wine. There are even some beach clubs where you can hang out for the day and really soak up the atmosphere of Sitges.

If you can’t get enough of this charming little town you can stay on into the evening where the vibrant nightlife of Sitges really starts to come alive, just don’t get too caught up in it and miss your train back to Barcelona!
